T&Cs

Bookings
  • Booking is essential. We run sessions at set times and cannot guarantee a seat for walk-ins. By completing a booking you are agreeing to these terms.

  • We do not charge a deposit to reserve your table. In exchange, we ask that you honour your booking and give us reasonable notice if your plans change.

  • Please cancel or reschedule at least 6 hours before your session start time. You can do this via your booking confirmation or by contacting us directly.

  • If you do not show up and have not contacted us, a £10 no-show fee will be charged per table. This applies regardless of the reason for non-attendance.

  • We will hold your table for 15 minutes after your session start time. If you arrive after this point without having been in touch, your booking may be marked as a no-show and the fee applied.

Late arrivals
  • If you are running late, please let us know as soon as possible so we can hold your table.

  • Sessions run to a fixed finish time. Late arrivals will not receive an extended session — your time begins at the session start, not your arrival. We are not able to offer refunds or adjustments for time lost due to late arrival.

Session rules and conduct
  • We are a pottery painting studio, not a drop-in cafe. All visitors, including non-painters, must be included in the booking and have a reserved seat. We do not have a separate seating area for spectators.

  • On Saturdays and Sundays we expect at least 50% of your party to be painters. Thursdays and Fridays are our quieter days and are a great option for those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

  • Only food and drink purchased at The Kiln Cafe may be consumed on the premises. Outside food and drink is not permitted in the studio or Lounge at any time.

  • We are a family-friendly space. We ask all guests to be considerate of others around them.

Dogs and animals
  • We welcome small, calm, well-behaved dogs. Dogs that are anxious, reactive, or disruptive are not suitable for our environment, which can become busy and noisy.

  • Assistance dogs are always welcome. Please let us know in advance if you are bringing one so we can ensure you have a comfortable space.

Pricing and payment
  • Pottery pieces are priced individually, ranging from £10 to £60. The price of each piece includes painting, glazing, and firing. Refreshments are charged separately on the day.

  • Some sessions carry an additional studio or booking fee. This is stated clearly on the relevant booking page and is not a deposit — it is a non-refundable charge for the session itself.

  • The VIP room carries a £60 non-refundable booking fee in addition to pottery and refreshment costs. The Lounge carries a £10 per person non-refundable studio fee.

The firing process
  • Firing painted pottery is an exciting but unpredictable process. Once your piece enters the kiln, certain outcomes are beyond our control, even with the greatest care taken. These include:

  • Cracking or breakage — caused by trapped air, uneven thickness, or clay that was not fully dry. Blistering or pinholes — caused by thick paint layers, fingerprints, or surface dust. Colour variation — fired colours can appear lighter, darker, or slightly different from how they looked before firing, particularly if paint was applied unevenly.

  • Small imperfections including colour shifts, minor crazing, and surface texture changes are normal and part of the charm of handmade pottery. We are not able to offer refunds or replacements for these natural outcomes.

  • In the unlikely event that your piece is damaged or broken during firing due to a fault on our part, we will discuss this with you individually.

Collection
  • Fired pieces are typically ready for collection within 10 days of your visit. This may be longer during busy periods and holidays. You will be given a collection date when you leave.

  • Pieces are held for one month from the collection date. After this point, uncollected pieces may be disposed of to free up storage. We are not able to extend this period indefinitely.

  • Your pieces are stored under the name on the original booking. Please bring your collection card if possible.

Returning to finish a piece
  • If you do not finish your piece during your session, we can store it for you to return and complete. A return fee of £5 applies each visit, in addition to any applicable session or studio fees.

  • You may return up to 3 times to work on the same piece, depending on the piece. Each return must be booked in advance.

  • You will be given a return-by date. If you do not return by that date and have not let us know, your piece may be disposed of to make room for others. We are not able to hold pieces indefinitely.

Postage
  • If you are unable to collect your piece in person, we can post it to you via Royal Mail. Postage is charged based on the size and weight of the piece, starting from £9.79.

  • We wrap pieces carefully, but postage is entirely at your own risk. We cannot accept responsibility for damage that occurs during transit and are not able to offer refunds for items damaged in the post.

Gift vouchers
  • Physical gift vouchers are available for purchase in-store. Vouchers are redeemable against anything we sell and can be topped up. They have no expiry date unless stated otherwise at the time of purchase.

Accessibility
  • We are committed to being a space for everyone. We have wheelchair accessible spaces, accessible toilets, baby changing facilities, and highchairs available on request.

  • If you have specific requirements, please let us know in the client notes when booking so we can do our best to accommodate you.

  • If you are visiting as a support worker, please include all members of your party (including non-painters) in the booking so that everyone has a reserved seat.

Changes to your booking
  • We understand that plans change. Where possible, please reschedule rather than cancel so your spot can be used. Rescheduling requests made with less than 6 hours' notice may not be accommodated.
